The Payroll Manager will be responsible for multiple operational tasks, including leading the payroll process, filing payroll taxes in multiple jurisdictions, reviewing, tracking financial operating metrics and participation in the monthly close.

He or she will report to the Director of Accounting Operations and will work from the company’s administrative offices in Norfolk, VA.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Centralize payroll processing by developing streamlined policies and procedures and integrating business units onto a web based time and attendance system.
  • Supervise Payroll Clerks responsible for processing the bi-weekly multi-state payroll.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee month end closing process and preparation of account reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Oversee internal and external audits.
  • Perform year-end W2 process.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources Department.
  • Maintain financial records and paper documentation files.
  • Assist with various financial integration tasks associated with new company acquisitions.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Self-starter; ability to work independently in a fast pace environment.
  • 3 years experience in managing and supervising a Payroll Department.
  • Excellent customer service is a must.
  • High level of confidentiality, integrity and work standards.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite; advanced MS Excel skills a plus.
  • CPP preferred
